formed in 1965 by a group of farmers from Yorkshire.

clothing, home, leisure and entertainment goods. they employ
109,000 staff who have a reputation for being the best and
the friendliest in the industry. They work with over 2,800
suppliers.
They try to make their stores part of the community and play
a positive part in all aspects of local life. Their Investment
in Britain over the past five years has meant they have opened
62 new stores and renewed 77 others creating over 25,000 new
jobs. In total they have developed 1.8 million square feet
of sales space representing an investment of more than £1.3
billion.
Over the next three years they plan to develop between 30
- 40 new stores, which will be an investment of over £1 billion.
They have a flexible approach to store size, developing new
stores of between 25,000 and 100,000 sq ft of selling space.
Their main focus is on their standard stores with an average
selling space of 42,000 sq ft. Only 16 of their stores fall
within the Government's own definition of "out of town" and
the majority of new and rebuilt stores over the past six years
have been on brown field sites.
To help stores become part of their surrounding environment,
they spend an average of £100,000 on landscaping for each
store. The Walmart name appeared on a UK store for the first
time in 2000, when the first ASDA Walmart supercentres opened
in Bristol, bringing a unique shopping experience to British
customers with the best of both organisations' products on
offer. Two more ASDA Walmart supercentres were launched at
Havant and Minworth last year, with the potential for a total
of ten by 2006. https://www.asdafortravel.com/
